WAS IT A SERIOUS VETTING OR JUST RUBBER STAMPING EXERCISE?

Image
F or the last one week , Kenyans were glued to their television sets as they were following the live proceedings of the vetting of  President Ruto's cabinet nominees. It is a constitutional requirements that the 2010 constitution had put in place. The first cabinet nominees to face the members of the national assembly Committee on appointments was former President Uhuru Kenyatta Jubilee Alliance Government. It was a vetting which Kenyans of all walks of life followed tentatively and holistically bearing in mind , the cabinet secretaries were to be technocrats and not politicians. This led to Kenyans meeting new faces of technocrats and bureaucrats who were new to them since , they weren't playing in the public gallery.  The just concluded vetting was being led by National Assembly speaker Hon Moses Wetangula deputized by Uasin Gishu Women Rep Hon Gladys Shollei. The committee on appointments comprised members of the national assembly drawn from the majority coalition Ke...

A POPULIST OR JUST A VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCES ; LIZ TRUSS UNCEREMONIOUS DOWNFALL.

Image
Photo courtesy of FB  " I am not a quiter but a fighter." This is outgoing British Prime Minister Elizabeth Truss that she uttered in the floor of the House of Commons when she was responding to Labour Party leader and official opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer. Truss was under sharp criticism barely a day after sacking his Treasury exchequer Minister Kwasi Kwarteng in unceremonious manner after his mini budget flopped in a big way. The populistic cut of taxes by 45% with ZERO commensurate plans on which avenues in the economy where they will generate revenue to seal that void made the British sterling pound to sink way below the dollar and the euro. The financial markets especially the London stock exchange (LSE) found it rough. The Bank of England inorder to salvage the already sinking ship , it had no option than to raise the bank rate hence pushing the cost of loans and mortgages up something that cause an uproar in the entire United Kingdom. Liz Truss will enter into t...

AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL HUSTLERS OUT THERE.

Image
Photo courtesy of FB L et me first with salutations and I hope you are all doing fine out there. I hope you woke up today full of energy , zeal , gusto and temerity ready to hustle and bustle as you hunt for today's bread amid skyrocketing high cost of living. I know you have adjusted your lifestyles inorder to conform with the prevailing Economic situations in our Country. I fully understand how things are difficult because, me too , I am too experiencing it and I can attest , things aren't that cosy. Something urgent must be done by the very goverment that promised to turn around the economic situations especially on the biting high cost of living. It is through that platform that they capitalized on to woo voters especially the hustlers to rise into power. Or you people , are you aware why you were labelled hustlers by political elites whom contributed so much to hole you in the economic conditions you are in today? They are bourgeoisies and owners of capital. The people you...

POLITICAL SATIRICAL COMEDY IS WELCOME BUT THIS ONE IS IN BAD TASTE. OVERBOARD!!!!!

Image
P  olitical satirical comedy found its way in Kenya during the times of redykulass that used to air at NTV whose crew led by Walter Mong'are , Tony Njuguna and John Kiarie popularly known as KJ illuminated both Carnivore simba saloon and our television sets at home with their rib cracking political satire why thry both mimicked the late Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi. Even as they were doing it , they were confining themselves within the confines of the theatre and performing arts laws. That's because, the very people they were mimicking were holding coveted state offices in the Country and doing performances that would place them in bad light was absolutely unethical and breach of the law. Decorum was at the centre of their trade and for of us who got a glimpse of their performances can attest truly , those comrades were professional in their work. After the end of redykulass , political satirical comedy shifted from theatre to animation an inflection that made it lo...

PRESIDENT KIBAKI REINVIGORATED KENYA'S ECONOMY WITH NO BLAME GAMES ; SAME SHOULD FOLLOW.

Image
O  n 27 December, 2002 , a mammoth of Kenyan voters rioted in tht ballot to express their anger and bitter and at the same time , light the lantern of hope and tranquility by sending KANU party into political oblivion and install a new regime of NARC'S presidential Mwai Kibaki. The country was pregnant for change. From El Wak to Malaba , Moyale to Isibania and from Mvita to Lwakhakha , slogans of yoote yawezekana bila Moi ( All is possible without Moi) occupied hectares of space. 24 years of misrule, plunder , corruption , Dictatorship , strangulation of human rights and civil liberties had led Kenyans from all walks of life to yearn for change either through democratic means or through a revolution. The former carried the day when President Kibaki was voted in overwhelmingly that very day. After ECK chairman Samuel Kivuitu declared Kibaki as the president elect , celebrations that ensued has never been witnessed. It made those that took place at Uhuru gardens back in 12th D...

IN AFRICA , WHAT IS GOOD FROM FAR MOSTLY TURNS OUT TO BE FAR FROM BEING GOOD.

Image
T here is a famous phrase that is always coined by our political elites that , we are Africans and Africa is our business. Off course , truly Africa is our business. We must sweat and moil under it. It is hard to survive in Africa and infact, you need to have a big heart. From civil wars , corruption and misrule , coup d'etats , imperialism and neocolonialism etc. Infact , Africa killed its son long time ago. I am very optimistic that the new goverment Kenyans installed through the ballot will live to our expectations. Yes!! Since , things aren't good especially economically. The much hopes Kenyans had especially those who rioted in the ballot to elect the Kenya Kwanza Alliance are now becoming jittery. I don't know why but it seems they feel they were politically conned.  Kenyans must brace for tough times ahead but one thing is , on Sunday, in the Sunday Nation newspaper opinion section, MÅ«rang'a County Governor Dr Kangata penned an article titled ; " Signs tha...

WHEN IS PRESIDENT RUTO PLANNING TO VISIT KENYA?

Image
K enyans are deeply concerned with the many foreign trips President Ruto is making off late. They are deeply concerned because, it is said that , Kenya's economy is dilapidated and that , the Country's CBK has no monies to run the economy. Again, with the Country's cash crunch , most of the government operations are on their knees. If that is so , then, why then use taxpayers monies in making foreign trips that can wait and handle domestic issues fast that needs urgent attention? Who is fooling who? It is important to note that, the 50 million Kenyans especially the ordinary Wanjiku is facing it rough. The cost of living has hit the roof. The inflation rate is at 9.5% according to the KNBS. Serious austerity measures must be effected by the Kenya Kwanza goverment and the President should be leading in it. We cannot have leaders who can't walk the talk.  During the Ruto's inauguration ceremony at Kasarani Stadium where a sea of humans had turned up and foreign dign...

PROF. NGUGI WA THIONG'O A CEREBRATED LITERATI IN THE WORLD BUT SCORNED IN OSLO.

Image
I n the village of Kamíríthu, Bibirioni Ward, Limuru Constituency in Kiambu County , 84 years ago , a man who has been using the pen to communicate and to educate the world in the field of literature was born. Prof. James NGUGI WA THIONG'O is a celebrated Kenyan literati both at home and in the World. I don't think there is no Country in the world where you can miss a single copy of his literature works. Ngugi wa THIONG'O and Prof. Mícere Mugo are the brain child behind the formation of University of Nairobi department of literature despite protestations and hurdles from the University administration and the Jomo Kenyatta goverment. Both withered that storm and ensured that , the consumption of foreign literature will come to an end and African literature must take its rightful place at thr pinnacle. The glory must go to the African child and brain.  Prof. Ngugi and the late Prof. Chinua Achebe from Nigeria are the only two celebrated literatis who Norwegian Nobel prize C...

I DON'T THINK GMOs IS THE WAY TO GO IN FIGHT AGAINST FOOD SHORTAGES IN KENYA.

Image
T he other day , the cabinet led by President Ruto vacated the ban on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) that was effected by the late President Mwai Kibaki on November, 2012. Infact, before the Kibaki Regime effected that ban , he has consulted a litany of scientists drawn from KENYA'S research and institutios of higher learning. It was reported to him that , French goverment too conducted research on that very GMOs and found that , it could have exposed its citizens to Cancer. Without a blink of an eye, Kibaki banned them in Kenya and closed that chapter. When forjer President Uhuru Kenyatta took over the government back in 2013 , he didn't open the can of worms even after US government pressing him to introduce the debate on whether GMOs should be adopted in Kenya or not. He remained tight lipped on that issue for the rest of his 10 years term. He evaded that topic but that doesn't mean biotechnology wasn't happening in Kenya. It has been happening especially in...
