PROF. NGUGI WA THIONG'O A CEREBRATED LITERATI IN THE WORLD BUT SCORNED IN OSLO.

In the village of Kamíríthu, Bibirioni Ward, Limuru Constituency in Kiambu County , 84 years ago , a man who has been using the pen to communicate and to educate the world in the field of literature was born. Prof. James NGUGI WA THIONG'O is a celebrated Kenyan literati both at home and in the World. I don't think there is no Country in the world where you can miss a single copy of his literature works. Ngugi wa THIONG'O and Prof. Mícere Mugo are the brain child behind the formation of University of Nairobi department of literature despite protestations and hurdles from the University administration and the Jomo Kenyatta goverment. Both withered that storm and ensured that , the consumption of foreign literature will come to an end and African literature must take its rightful place at thr pinnacle. The glory must go to the African child and brain.

Prof. Ngugi and the late Prof. Chinua Achebe from Nigeria are the only two celebrated literatis who Norwegian Nobel prize Committee has never recognized. The reason is obvious , the two have been urdent in glorifying the African literature, language and culture. They have been vehemently doing in unapologetically and unequivocally through their literature works. Again, the two are viewed as strict and staunch fellows who are so much ingrained in Marxist-Lennist ideologies. They have been promoting socialism and vindicating capitalism to the detriment of the West and some European States. Again, they have vindicated colonialism and neocolonialism. This have irked the imperialists who see the works of the two as a thorn in their feet. How can they reward and recognize fellows who have been critical of them. As for Ngugi wa THIONG'O , this time round , Kenya , Africa and the who world we waiting for OSLO to recognize him. Savage!!! They have decided to take the glory in France.

Whether they scorn and fail to recognize the Professor of English and comparative literature at the University of California, Irvine , Africa and especially East Africa will continue celebrating this son of Kamíríthu. His books will continue being read and referred to by the academia around the World. Infact, we all know how Ngugi literature works placed him into a collision path with both Jomo Kenyatta and Moi regimes that forced him into exile. Infact , they realized that , a tip of a pen is more lethal than a bullet of a gun. Ngugi's works have been tailored to emancipate the mind of the African to break loose from the York of Colonial mentality and neocolonialism. It is through penning down the truth Africa literature and cut off the European literature that was meant to snear and vindicate our tradions and culture as Africans.

Prof. Ngugi wa THIONG'O books that I revere are : the grain of wheat , Weep Not, Child , Writers in Politics , Moving the centre , The devil on the cross , Matigari , Detained: Writers prison diary, The River between , decolonizing the mind , petals of blood etc. The Oslo Committee with its imperialism mind decided and it is now clear , as Kenyans , we should not wait them to recognize Ngugi. His works are viewed by the West and Europe as critical to their continuous exploitation of Africa both psychologically , Politically, socially and Economically. They harbor alot of contempt in Ngugi who has abandoned writing in English and now he do it in his native Gíkûyū language. When Catalonia recognized him and awarded him a prize , he gave his acceptance speech in Gíkûyū language. Those who castigated him aren't the Spanish but Africans. I wonder why but because , neocolonialism has suffocated them , that's why they decided to do that. Before you embrace a foreign language , why should spit your mother tongue. It is your first language that connects your with your ancestors and forefathers.

As Africans , we will not continue praising other literatures while we vindicate ours. Though globalization is what is taking the centre stage through technology , Africans have already lost their culture. We are not aping everything that is western with total disregard of what is rightfully ours as Africans. We have been made to hate everything that is produced in Africa. We even hate our colour and identity. That's how we have lost it. When literature works that is aimed at taking back to our roots is being unleashed on us , we are told that , what is contained in those books is archaic, retrogressive and overtaken by events.

We must be proud of our African literatis even even they aren't recognized out there. We cannot be hated and misused and hate ourselves too. We cannot be charged to hate our literatis because they have refused to glorify neocolonialism and imperialists who wants us to re-write our Africa literature and embrace theirs. Scorn our culture and traditions since, from their point of view it is barbaric and embrace theirs. If it is so , why did Colonialists stole Africa's artefacts and anthropological artefacts and information? If it was primitive and archaic as they put across.  We must write out own history and embrace our own culture and literature. It is that simple.
