PROF. NGUGI WA THIONG'O A CEREBRATED LITERATI IN THE WORLD BUT SCORNED IN OSLO.
In the village of Kamíríthu, Bibirioni Ward, Limuru Constituency in Kiambu County , 84 years ago , a man who has been using the pen to communicate and to educate the world in the field of literature was born. Prof. James NGUGI WA THIONG'O is a celebrated Kenyan literati both at home and in the World. I don't think there is no Country in the world where you can miss a single copy of his literature works. Ngugi wa THIONG'O and Prof. Mícere Mugo are the brain child behind the formation of University of Nairobi department of literature despite protestations and hurdles from the University administration and the Jomo Kenyatta goverment. Both withered that storm and ensured that , the consumption of foreign literature will come to an end and African literature must take its rightful place at thr pinnacle. The glory must go to the African child and brain.
Prof. Ngugi and the late Prof. Chinua Achebe from Nigeria are the only two celebrated literatis who Norwegian Nobel prize Committee has never recognized. The reason is obvious , the two have been urdent in glorifying the African literature, language and culture. They have been vehemently doing in unapologetically and unequivocally through their literature works. Again, the two are viewed as strict and staunch fellows who are so much ingrained in Marxist-Lennist ideologies. They have been promoting socialism and vindicating capitalism to the detriment of the West and some European States. Again, they have vindicated colonialism and neocolonialism. This have irked the imperialists who see the works of the two as a thorn in their feet. How can they reward and recognize fellows who have been critical of them. As for Ngugi wa THIONG'O , this time round , Kenya , Africa and the who world we waiting for OSLO to recognize him. Savage!!! They have decided to take the glory in France.
Whether they scorn and fail to recognize the Professor of English and comparative literature at the University of California, Irvine , Africa and especially East Africa will continue celebrating this son of Kamíríthu. His books will continue being read and referred to by the academia around the World. Infact, we all know how Ngugi literature works placed him into a collision path with both Jomo Kenyatta and Moi regimes that forced him into exile. Infact , they realized that , a tip of a pen is more lethal than a bullet of a gun. Ngugi's works have been tailored to emancipate the mind of the African to break loose from the York of Colonial mentality and neocolonialism. It is through penning down the truth Africa literature and cut off the European literature that was meant to snear and vindicate our tradions and culture as Africans.
