PRESIDENT KIBAKI REINVIGORATED KENYA'S ECONOMY WITH NO BLAME GAMES ; SAME SHOULD FOLLOW.

n 27 December, 2002 , a mammoth of Kenyan voters rioted in tht ballot to express their anger and bitter and at the same time , light the lantern of hope and tranquility by sending KANU party into political oblivion and install a new regime of NARC'S presidential Mwai Kibaki. The country was pregnant for change. From El Wak to Malaba , Moyale to Isibania and from Mvita to Lwakhakha , slogans of yoote yawezekana bila Moi ( All is possible without Moi) occupied hectares of space. 24 years of misrule, plunder , corruption , Dictatorship , strangulation of human rights and civil liberties had led Kenyans from all walks of life to yearn for change either through democratic means or through a revolution. The former carried the day when President Kibaki was voted in overwhelmingly that very day. After ECK chairman Samuel Kivuitu declared Kibaki as the president elect , celebrations that ensued has never been witnessed. It made those that took place at Uhuru gardens back in 12th December, 1963 when Kenya became a republic and the British union jack was lowered and Kenya flag was hoisted.

Kenya's economy when President Kibaki was inheriting it from KANU regime was in High dependency unit (HDU). The GDP growth rate was all low at 0.6% since, IMF and other multilateral and bilateral donors has halted their financial assistance to President Moi regime after he declined to address the runaway corruption, embezzlement and plundering of taxpayers monies. The Country's GDP was US $ 13.2 Billion. In short, the country was in the path of a severe Economic meltdown. Kibaki them came at the hour of need. Kenya needed him than ever. He was the prophesied seer of old. In his basket of promises , Kibaki just urged Kenyans to work hard so that they generate revenue that will spur the County's economy without relying too much on foreign financial institutions like IMF and WB. By 2003, Kenya's economy had grown by 3% and already, the ordinary wanjiku was feeling it positively.

Kibaki threw the spanner at works without giving excuses. As the Kenya's CEO , he took most of his time in the office formulating solutions that bedevilled the nation instead of formulating solutions and roaming from one corner of Kenya to the other castigating the KANU regime of their past misdeeds. Kibaki new what he wanted. He had already formulated a social, political and economic blueprint for Kenya. With that , there was no room for him and his Goverment to cling on ehet Moi did and what he ought to have done but failed. In fact , president Kibaki , a refined and accomplished economist implemented the now famous Kenya Kwanza Alliance bottom up Economic model. He started by opening the banking sector to Kenyans. Him together with his Finance Minister David Mwiraria , lowered the central bank rate for commercial loans. This in return made banks to open room for ordinary Wanjiku and what shocked many is , banks were hawking loans to Mama mbogas and shoe shiners. To open up the economy even further , Kibaki shaped his foreign policy towards the East. He landed in China where , the boda boda sector was born. He zero rated custom duty on motorcycles. Many youths ventured into that industry that now generates billions of shillings in form of taxes.

Other sectors of the economy such as Agriculture, water and irrigation , roads and other infrastructure , judiciary , education especially basic education where , Kibaki implemented his promise of his Goverment will provide Free primary education (FPE). The jua Kali sector and other medium and small microenterprises (MSMEs) felt the positive impact of his Kibaki regime. It is during that time that Constituency Development Fund(CDF) was mooted and implemented inorder to role out development projects that will supplement those roles out by various Ministerial departments. President Kibaki proved IMF wrong because , he confined himself to domestic borrowing and prudent use of taxes collected by KRA which immediately he was sworn in as President embarked on streamlining it. Much of the infrastructural projects in Kenya were funded by Africa Development Bank and not WB. By looking East , many businesses thrived because , it was easy fir traders and industries to ship in their goods from China, Singapore , South Korea, Japan , Taiwan etc. The wealthy Kenyans who had stashed their wealth in foreign banks to avoid harassment from the despotic KANU regime repatriated it back to Kenya. Most of that purchased CBK's Treasury bills and bonds. And other loaned the Kibaki regime. That's how the country generated its wealth internally without necessary becoming slaves of IMF and WB.

Kenya Kwanza Alliance tirelessly campaigned to win the 2022 presidential election. They gave a litany of promises and pilled all the blame the former President Uhuru Kenyatta regime. They blamed the the government then for the dire situation of the economy. When the president said that , the after shocks of COVID-19 that had ravaged our economy and the Ukraine-Russia war that too affected the global economy and especially the oil markets. But today , the president Ruto has changed the tune. The promises they made to us Kenyans are now in a dire situation. The government should noe be giving solutions and not giving excuses to the previous regime. Someone should be asking himself , were this people ready to form and run a goverment? Why should be leading a goverment and at the same time be whining from morning to evening. A father and a husband in tht house should be offering solutions to his family buy not keeping on complaining from morning to evening.

The Kenya Kwanza goverment should swing into action and provide tangible results and provide solutions. The 100 days it promised to  solve Kenyans high cost of living is melting away. Things are noe becoming easy and for the record , let's brace for the tough times ahead. As for now , any serious goverment should be formulating short term solutions to address the cost of living and at the same time , formulating the longtime ones. The heads must be rolling but not not running away from the problems by playing the politics of an ostrich where you burry your head in the sand and imagine the danger has gone away. Zero!!! That's akin to chasing a black cat in a dark room. Let the government win the trust of Kenyans. 15 Million Kenyans did not vote for this goverment. With this in mind , President Ruto must stop using the campaign tone everytime he is out there. Let him us a tone of someone running a Goverment. They can't be using Kibaki as an example yet you are doing the difference. Let's walk the talk. We can't preach water and drink wine.
