IS NYANZA MILKING A COW IT DIDN'T FED?

 President William Ruto embarked on a two day visit in Luo Nyanza, that is Homa Bay and Siaya Counties. Yesterday, he spend the better part of the day in Homa Bay county. He was welcomed by Governor Gladys Wanga , former Governor Awiti and other leaders who were or are members of the ODM party including elected Legislators in that county. In that County, President Ruto who is also accompanied by his Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, commission the Homa Bay market and also pledged to initiate a number of development projects which were given to him by the area leadership who kept their political differences aside to chat a common cause. It is cognizance to note that , this is the region which voted for Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga to the last man. But since the President is a symbol of national unity, he is obliged to visit this part of Kenya.

In a democracy like Kenya, all Kenyans have their political rights and are enshrined in our constitution. No region, ethnic community or race should be isolated by the government in power just because they voted for a particular party or coalition. It is their inalienable rights to chat any political path they dim fit. Unlike in the former KANU regime where the president used to dangle both the knife and the yam , the new dispensation doesn't allow the President to alienate any part of this country or its leaders. It is important to note that , majority of elected legislators from this region are in the opposition in both houses. Fine!! It is good because, a fledging democracy which has a sitting Government and no option has no moral authority to claim itself as a democracy. It is an autocratic , dictatorial and despotic in waiting. The President was welcomed with pomp and fanfare. Even all types of fishes in the lake Victoria felt his presence. They too enjoy the joy together with their tormentors who had relaxed their nets to welcome the President. The only casualty was the 200 kg fish whose fate was cut short yesterday and was handed to President Ruto as a gift.

A memoranda of development projects which the Homa Bay leaders holding brief for their people was what raised my eye brows. It shows that this leaders knew exactly what they wanted and I believe the President will not let them down. You are given what you lobby for since , the president is like a man who is a polygamist. He has 47 wives and a litany of children to llok after. Each wife will benefit depending on the mondus operandi she used to loby for resources from her husband. It is exactly what the Homa Bay and Siaya Counties leadership is doing. In Siaya County, the President was welcomed by Governor James Orengo and senator Oburu Odinga. The chemistry between this leaders warmed netizens for the better part of the day. Reactions from it have occupied hectares of space in this Zuckerberg streets. In Siaya County, the leadership too had lined up a memoranda of development projects they want the Kenya Kwanza goverment to initiate in this region. It is good to remember that , during the handshake between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his erstwhile political rival ODM leader Raila Odinga, alot of development projects were roles out in Luo Nyanza. There was a huge backlash from Tanga Tanga luminaries especially from Mt Kenya region who accused Uhuru Kenyatta of taking coveted development projects in Luo Nyanza, a region that didn't vote for him both in 2013 and 2017. 

The question I am asking myself is , where did the previous regime erred in taking development projects in thet region. Aren't they part of Kenya? Aren't they taxpayers who contribute in our exchequer? Again, what will Njoroge who voted for UDA say when he sees President Ruto hobnobbing with ODM honchos in this visit? What will he do? Will he brand the President as a betrayer? Your guess is good as mine but the most brutal truth is , those in Mt Kenya region should realize that , by their continued bragging that they are the biggest shareholders of this Kenya Kwanza Alliance goverment, they will soon find themselves getting the short end of the stick. Resources are lobbying and that's what the president will roll out to you. He won't operate with assumptions just because the region played a key role in helping him clinch power in August 9th , 2022 presidential elections. Just like the proverbial saying which goes , a man who hangs around with a beautiful lady without proposing to her ends up fetching water in her wedding. If Mt Kenya region won't take note and charge, it will find itself fetching water for others.

The kind of political differences in Mt Kenya region which are hogwash, retrogressive and petty will make President Ruto to shift his attention elsewhere. When other regions are grappling to get something from the national cake , we are busy fighting who will be our political Kingpin. We are busy testing loyalty of some leaders towards the ruling party. All this and other supremacy battles are in bad taste. They say , when brothers and sisters fight, it becomes very easy for a stranger to disinherit them. That's exactly what's happening. When other regions are lobbying for roads , electricity , water connections , dams etc , Mt Kenya region are busy pulling each other down. All they need to know is , no outsider can come to intervene but instead, they are even happy because, they will seize the opportunity to take what would rather be coming to us. Before you settle on who is the kingpin , the cake will be nowhere only crumbles. Sad!!!!
