An election is both a rational and emotive exercise. Yes!!! Intelligence quotient (IQ) doesn't necessarily apply during Elections as it was seen on 9th August. The voter went to the ballot to make very serious democratic decisions. To vote in their preferred leaders who will lead them for the next five years. In that , they will sign a social contract right from the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) to that of the President. In this election especially in Mt Kenya region , the voter went in the ballot with only one mission , to punish President Uhuru Kenyatta. Yes!! That's why , the purge on Jubilee Party candidates in this region was monumental. From Kiambu to Nakuru Counties , the political cleansing in the ballot was sinister. There are many members of the National Assembly in Mt Kenya region whose development track record was speaking for itself but the voter didn't hearken anything of that. Just because they were defending their seats using Jubilee Party , they were placed in the altar ready to be slaughtered. The voter in this region used emotional quotient (EQ) to make decisions and not necessarily using his intelligence quotient (IQ).
GEMA nation always uses emotions to vote. They have never used reason to make their own political decisions. While other regions were retaining their political leaders based on their track records on matters development and legislation , in this region , bitterness and vandetta took the centre stage. It doesn't mean all those leaders who were defending their seats in this region didn't perform in their duties. Majority did alot in lobbying for infrastructural projects in their Counties and Constituencies. The purge on them was because, they were incited to slaughter their own sons and daughters in the ballot just because they were vying on a Jubilee Party ticket. If you look around , each ethnic nations especially the dominant ones in Kenya, each have their political party. Just look at the voting pattern of the just concluded general elections. You will certify what am saying. UDA wrecked havoc in Rift Valley amongst the Kalenjin Nation because , that is their political party. In Ukambani , they rallied behind Wiper Democratic Movement. In Nyanza and parts of western region , ODM took a lions share. In Bungoma and Trans Nzoia Counties , both Ford Kenya and DAP-Kenya went for each other's jagular but in the former , Ford Kenya took almost all the seats. In Trans Nzoia , DAP-Kenya too majority of MCA seats , gubernatorial and a few Parliamentary seats.
The voting pattern in Mt Kenya region shocked many. It was they of vandetta and illwill. It was as if the voters were on a magic spell from a very powerful political cult. In Mūrang'a County alone , if there is a legislato whom I was expecting will be given another term easily was Kigumo MP Hon Ruth Mwaniki on the parameter of her development track record. The residents there decided to place her in the alter and politically slaughtered her. In Gatanga too , I was expecting residents there to give the incumbent MP Hon Nduati Ngugi to be given another term based on his development track record. If this are the parameters Wanjiku in this region was looking for , then , I done except majority of this leaders would have been swept the way they have. Their biggest crime is to be associated with Jubilee Party , a party which took majority of those in UDA to parliament back in 2017. Now , they are demonizing it citing it isn't a party of Mt Kenya region. All what they should know is , with Jubilee Party being rendered useless , how will they embrace the other political parties which Ruto christened them as tribal outfits and briefcase Parties. In this case , am referring to CCK , TSP , Tujibebe Wakenya , Usawa etc. UDA is a Kalenjin political party and the owners knows it and they are happy that , GEMA nation have now joined their Mulembe nation counterparts who have been wobbling in the political wilderness.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has done much for the residents of Mt Kenya region. They have decided not to hold a candle for him just because of his association with his political adversary turned friend Raila Odinga. The very development projects that the Jubilee Government has rolled out with be remembered for decades to come. GEMA nation forget very fast. During the late President Mwai Kibaki regime , when he was doing Thika superhighway and other mega infrastructural projects , this very people who after his demise , the very people who were chiding him because of that superhighway were showering accolades to him for leaving behind a monumental infrastructural project that will never forget. Others were even proposing the Thika superhighway to be named after the late President Mwai Kibaki. But when he was doing it , they were asking him , " tutakula hiyo superhighway" ( Will we eat that superhighway) That's how GEMA nation are and if in an event Ruto won't win the presidential seat , I wonder whether come 2027 , this very GEMA nation will stand by him again. All what he will be doing is to ensure the community continue walking in his political shadow and thwart any efforts for them to groom one of their own for the 2027 presidential election and also, having a formidable political party.
It will not take long before the very people who are snearing the head of State to start using this word , "Kaba Uhuru" when things will start going south. If Azimio la Umoja will form the next Government , Mt Kenya region is technically in the opposition. Yes!! And with no CDF for legislators , they will peg all their hopes in the sitting Government for development projects. MPs can't risk to just stay idle and not source for development projects in their projects bearing in mind , their Constituents will be on their necks come 2027. There is no doubt that , majority of those elected using UDA tickets will have to work closely with the Azimio la Umoja Government inorder for development projects to be rolled out in their respective Constituencies. It sounds that Jubilee Party is heading where the ruling party KANU was thrown back in 202 under President Moi. From where am seated, I feel that's where we are heading and something urgent must be employed all else , it will be the end of this political party. The only political parties in Kenya that have stood the test of time are ODM and Wiper. Another political party too that have withered the storm for a long time though it is only domiciled in its region alone is Ford Kenya of Moses Wetangula. Will Jubilee Party which is now embattled in my Kenya region wither that that Storm? It will take more time and effort to reinvigorate it in Mt Kenya region. But the fact is , the political onslaught is purely because , its leader Uhuru Kenyatta decided to hold it tightly when the efforts by his Deputy to run with it became futile.
Prior to the general elections , Mt Kenya region were vowing how they will teach President Uhuru Kenyatta a political lesson. The first lesson was to purge all his friends who were vying for various political seats using the Jubilee Party ticket. Wanjiku was voting the yellow outfit not because they believed in those aspirants vying using it but because they want to punish President Uhuru Kenyatta. In the whole Mt Kenya region , only Hon David Kíaraho of Ol Kalou Constituency and his counterpart Hon Kwenya Thuku of Kinangop Constituency. This two Constituencies are in Nyandarua County whereby , the yellow fever swept the entire County. In Nakuru County , there was shock and even now , Bahati Constituency former legislator Kimani Ngunjiri is yet to come into terms how he lost that seat on a UDA ticket to one Irene Njoki of Jubilee Party. Irene withered the UDA onslaught in that Cosmopolitan City County to clinch that seat from a seasoned politician Kimani. In Lamu County , Jubilee Party swept entirely all the political seats. Yes!!! So , it is not the party which has a problem but in Mt Kenya region , there are those party honchos who were earmarked for Political demolition. Someone whispered to me as we were doing a postmortem of what could have made Jubilee Party to face the kind of political onslaught that it underwent. That friend of mind took a swipe on Jubilee Party top echelons for not conducting nominations through universal suffrage. The one man one vote primaries could have instilled confidence on its supporters and aspirants who were using that party to hunt for various political seats.
After the party decided to conduct primaries based on aspirants popularity , their opponents took that lacuna to chide them and inherit most of the aspirants who were purged too during those board room nominations. Majority of the supporters of this ruling party vowed to teach it a political lesson. As I was moving around and interacting with Wanjiku , it was clear back in my mind , any candidate vying on a Jubilee Party ticket especially in Mūrang'a County will get it rough. No amount of convincing would have salvaged the party. Majority said that , they were irked with the manner the party conducted its nominations. They were asking this question , as a ruling party , how did it fail to conduct nominations through universal suffrage? Though the party was facing serious political turbulence , their conduct of nominations drove its last nail in the coffin of its miseries. Those who misled the President Uhuru Kenyatta inorder believing that , by conducting nominations through Popularity ratings instead of using the ballot inorder to avoid fall out , made took a wrong turn. Infact , by conducting nominations through universal suffrage , managing fallout after that exercise from aspirants who could have felt the exercise wasn't free fair and credible would have been easier. To the party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta , one of the major reason for the Jubilee Party onslaught in the region is that , the nomination exercise soiled the hearts not of the aspirants par see but their supporters. In future , let the party hold primaries through one man one vote.
I may be wrong or right but from where am seated and as a political animal who has been interacting with the ordinary wanjiku and reading her mind and political behavioral characters especially in Mt Kenya region , that is where the rain started beating us. Though the Jubilee Party reinvigoration exercise was too late after UDA's William Ruto had made serious inroads in all Constituencies of Mt Kenya region popularizing his party and capturing swathes of voters hearts and minds , Jubilee Party wasn't that late. Its decision not to conduct nominations through the ballot like its competitor UDA nailed it big. What informed the party not to take that route still remains a puzzle in majority of its supporters from the region. In UDA , there was resentment after the nominations which took part in some regions and others , where consensus was fruitful , direct tickets were issued. That is what majority were expecting from Jubilee Party honchos to do but they didn't and it contributed to serious resentment from Wanjiku on the ground. It is that serious though the future is Luminous.
