KCPE RESULTS SHOULDN'T BE USED TO CONDEMN OUR CHILDREN ACADEMIC ABILITIES.
The 2022 KCPE results are out. In many parts of Kenya, parents, guardians , teachers and pupils are celebrating their victory and other are sobbing, blaming each other and disillusioned by the results they received. Again, you cannot plant wheat and expect to harvest Rice. It isn't possible. Again, in the history of Kenya and the KCPE exams , this is the year this results were casually released by a cabinet secretary of education. The fanfare and pomp that usually took place before, during and after the release of this exam was absolutely lacking. The CS Education hurriedly conducted this exercise as if he was squizzed by his itinerary. It is the media which is doing much of the statistical analysis of the general performance of this results. What was the hurry? Does it mean the CS has this kind of contempt towards the docket he is holding? How will he behave when he will be releasing the KCSE results come January?
As the pomp and fanfare is taking place across the Country, there is a section of parents who I believe absconded in their duties in as far as monitoring and evaluating the education of their sons and daughters in school is concerned who are now pilling pressure and stress on the to explain why they didn't attain the marksthis parents were expecting. If you didn't invest in the education of your child , stop nagging her. You can't be delegating your parental roles to the teachers and nanies and when the results are out , your held bulgeons because your son and daughter soiled your image and reputation. You can't be hopping from Quiver lounge to Moran on weekends and during the weekdays , you enter you house at night especially wee hours and you don't have time to monitor the education progess of your child and now , you are behaving as if that child has committed the most henious crime. Success and achievement are relative. If your son and daughter managed to undertake this year's KCPE whole and intact, that alone is an achievement. He/she should be congratulated for it. On the issue of success, stop giving your children pressure. She got 250 marks and you were expecting him/her to get 300 marks , just contain yourself. Be cool. Just plan how they will pick from those marks as they transition to high school.
I saw a Head master of Moi DEB primary school sobbing literally because he couldn't come into terms with the results his school registered. Parents and pupils were too devastated. But all this people should remember is not allow themselves to be defined by the marks they registered in this exam. There is much ahead awaiting them. In the previous KCSE exams especially during the reign of former CS Education Prof. Magoha, he gathered very interesting statistical analysis whereby, students who scored dismal KCPE results like 170 marks ended up scoring grades C+ and B- . All is possible. So , why should a parent become mad just because the daughter scored 368 marks. This man is bitter with his daughter as if she has committed murder. Look , this are the kind of parents who makes their children to commit suicide. In him , I have seen a very ignoramus parent. It is sad. He should just let her daughter be and not only him , but parents holding the kind of reasoning he is displaying to the Country and the World.
We are in a festive season and Christmas is just days shy and we should allow this children to evaluate their results in peace. As a parent, you aren't the one who did the exam but rather your son or daughter. Let them have ample time to be with their results. As a parent, placement of this pulpils to various secondary and high schools, starting from National to sub County day schools will take place very soon. The results are now behind you , high school placement is now the next task. After it , reporting to this very schools. With secondary schools subsides gone , those parents taking their sons and daughters in form one will see it rough. Enjoy your christmas keeping that in mind. Things will be bumpy and also , let's hope, your Ng CDF kitty will be impregnated by the national Treasury come January. Children who did exam should be given time to rest and relax. It is that simple. When parents out there starts comparing notes amongst yourself on the basis on how your children performed in this exam, you compound things even further.
I believe from where I am seated , the future for this kids is bright. Success is relative and condemning this children based on what is in that result slip. What they will do in high school is all what is very important. Let's encourage those who performed dismally that , with 100% transition from primary to secondary schools a goverment policy which is fully in operation , even this pupils who attained 80 marks will secure space in secondary schools. With this in mind , why the pressure? The future is luminous.
