KENYANS SHOULD CELEBRATE SABA SABA WITH NOSTALGIA ; THE FUTURE IS LUMINOUS.

Down the memory lane , a day like today back in 1990 , Kenya's second liberation heroes staged a mega rally at Kamukunji grounds that sent shockwaves, panic and confusion in the KANU regime. President Moi and his acolytes had a very uncomfortable and disturbing day. The whole Security forces were deployed to crack down these politicians and their supporters who turned up to this meeting. There was a heavy cloud of tension and pandemonium which had enveloped the whole of Nairobi City. Even innocent Kenyans who were going on with their usual daily errands found themselves in a fix. For every 5 citizens in the city , there were 10-15 police officers. The venue where the meeting was taking place , a contingent of anti riot police forces drawn from the dreaded GSU and RDU were present combing Shauri Moyo , Eastleigh and its evirons like no one business.

Moi was always paranoid. He feared his citizens who he ruled with an iron fist. As is usual , despotic, autocrat , kleptocratic and authoritarian are always afraid when citizens rise up to fight for their rights. President Moi and his partners in crime translated the push by the church, civil societies , lawyers and opposition leaders who opposed his high handedness goverment as a threat to his Kalenjin community first and second his leadership. So , he converted Kenya I to a Police State. Fear was the currency of trade in the early 1990's. The dreaded Special Branch sleuths were all over. They combed ever social and economic places and the only place that took zero chances was in the political arena. Political Leaders like Raila Odinga , James Orengo , the late Martin Shikuku , Jean Marie Saroney , Paul Muite , Njeri Gathangu , Muturi Kigano , Gibson Kamau Kuria , clergies Bishop Alexander Muge and Rev Timothy Njoya , intellectuals Dr Willy Mutunga , Prof Anyang Ny'ongo , the late Katama Mkangi ,Mukaru Ng'ang'a etc. This are the people who tasted the iron claws of Moi. In the dungeons of Nyayo House and Nyati House went through henious and atrocious acts. There are those who were incarcerated in Kamiti and Naivasha maximum security prisons.

Kenyans lived with fear. The bill of rights was strangled and defiled and left to fight for its life. Media and freedom of speech, movement and expression was highly censored. Freedom of association was too censored. To hold a family gathering , you had to seek a clearance from your area chief and the OCS of the police station near you. Things were tough and that's why Kenyans are fearing the return of that kind of Regime through Ruto and Gachagua. They were the gate keepers and sympathisers of that regime and even took part in wrecking havoc to those who questioned and opposed Moi regime. Ruto was a member of the dreaded KANU youth militia Youth for KANU popularly known as YK 92. How can this Kenya Kwanza Alliance duo convince Kenyans that their names and Democracy can feature in the same sentence? How can they convince Kenyans can uphold and help entrench Democracy in this Country? Kenyans from a distance especially those who were present during the despotic KANU regime that ran from 1978 to 2002.

I beseech millennials not to be ignorant of the this Country's history. It you are ignorant of your past , that is where you are coming from , how can you convince us you understand where you are currently and where you are heading. Kenyans who are sober and critically analysing all presidential candidates are in a position to decode those who are gearing to take this country forward politically , socially , culturally and economically. From where am seated ,as we commemorate this very important day in the history of this Country , the Saba Saba day should be a day Kenyans should take stock on the strides this Country have taken since the inception of Democracy in this Country.

In the whole of the East African Community , Kenya is a haven of Democracy. If you doubt me , look not further but Uganda , Tanzania , Burundi etc. This are Countries with pseudo democracy. They masquerades to be democratic on paper but in reality, they are dictatorial. Freedom of expression is highly regulated. In our neighboring countries , there is limited freedom of expression but there is no freedom after expression. Sad!!! Both social and mainstream media is highly censored by State machineries. There are some of the things you only post in your social media pages or if you are a journalist , pen it in a daily newspaper when you are in exile. Fact!!!

Kenyans don't want to go back on the streets again to fight for Democracy. Yes!!! We don't want to have a second liberation. Don't be hoodwinked by those telling us freedom is coming. Fallacy!!! How can sympathizers of Autocratic , despotic and dictatorial lecture us on matters freedom? How??? This is a ploy to lure gullible Kenyans into a trap. When Azimio la Umoja duo talk about matters entrenching Democracy , rule of law , respect to human rights and end to extra judicial killings , you have moral authority to lend them your ears and attention. When their rivals talk about the same , pleas run , ruuuun and don't even look back like the biblical Lot's wife. Things will be rough and tough for you. We don't want the democracy we are enjoying to be strangled. We have come from far to reach where we are. Someone who is bitter and threatening to slap othere and he is yet to hold the instruments of POWER , what do you expect if he gets hold of it?

Kenyans should not allow Nyayo House to be converted back into torture chambers. Kenyans should not allow our jails to be conjested again by Kenyans who will be detained without trial for opposing the Kenya Kwanza Alliance regime. Kenyans should not allow back the extra judicial killings and forceful displacement of innocent Kenyans just because of their political affiliations. Kenyans don't want to be forced into exile. Let the lessons we have learnt from the Saba Saba day to be our yardstick. Let us keep it close to our chests. We are 59 years old since independence and let us not allow the gains we have made since the KANU regime was sent into political oblivion. Its remants who are good students of Moi's Machiavellian rule not to re-introduce it back. They are determined to return it going by their recent behaviors. The bitterness in them and the threats of slapping a sitting President and even vowing to form a kangaroo judicial review commission. Let's take caution. Where there is smoke , there is fire. And if it walks like a duck , quacks like a duck , eats like a duck , then , it is definitely a DUCK!!!!
