As the clock is ticking , so as the days are melting away and the general election is beckoning. From afar , I can feel its smell. The sound of the machines printing the ballot papers in Greece are being heard in my village. That's means , wanjiku is readying herself to participate in the much awaited democratic exercise. Kenya is a highly Political State and this can be witnessed by looking at what is happening in both the social and mainstream media , in churches , markets , tea buying centres , jobless corners in shopping centres etc. Wanjiku is readying her thumb so that the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS) kit which is used for biometric voting will behave abs respond in quickly. In short , the Country is in an election mood. An election isn't an event but a process. Fact!!!
The most factual thing is the attrition rate in Mt Kenya region. Residents here votes using emotions rather than reason. So far , majority of the sitting MCAs , Senators , Members of the National Assembly and Women Reps will not see the light of the day. Whether they have worked for their people or not , that isn't a parameter that is used in Mt Kenya region to determine which leader deserves to be elected or re-elected their political affiliation not withstanding. If Wanjiku's Court of public opinion seals your fate as an elected leader that you will go home , no amount of cash will save you. You will definitely go home. If you doubt what am saying , after the general elections , do your analysis on the number of MPs , Senators and MCAs who are sitting and are seeking re election will be sent packing through the ballot. For example , back in 2017 gubernatorial race , in all the 10 Counties that make up Mt Kenya region , only Mūrang'a County Governor Mwangi wa Íría was re-elected for a second term , all the others were sent packing. The only Governor who had performed was Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo but was sent home in a disgraceful manner by voters whose emotions were whipped and incited towards him.
Still on Mt Kenya region , in Mūrang'a , the County I hail, it has 7 Constituencies and only Kandara MP Hon Alice Wahome got re-elected , the rest were sent packing in a very disgraceful manner. That alone tells you that Wanjiku in Mt Kenya votes in and out leaders without putting in cognizance whether the elected leaders fulfilled their promises they made to their electorates or not. This attrition rate at the ballot is very dangerous if only Wanjiku of this region knows it. For a new Member of the National Assembly , before he/she acquaints themselves on Parliamentary procedures and traditions , he/she can spend more than 2 years. If the MP is a daft and clueless and worst he/she has a business oriented mind, as an electorate , you will get it rough. He/She can spend 5 years and do absolutely nothing to his people. Then, along the way , Wanjiku get fed up with this MP and a backlash is mooted on his/her tenure. Kaboom!!! The fellow gets alienated with his constituents in a big way. In this backdrop, there is no development projects that can be taking place because , this MP will definitely understand that his/her goose is cooked no matter the kind of development he/she will roll out to his people. This is the true character of Mt Kenya region voter.

Then the Mt Kenya region voter after doing all this , she will be out in the village , shopping centres and tea buying centres complaining how the president comes from their region but they aren't feeling it. It is through your elected leaders where development projects will come from. In Kenya , we practice representative democracy , whereby , we elect leaders to go to the Parliament and County Assembly to transact business on behalf of us. If you elect a mediocre , incompetent and inept , what do you expect. Can you plant barley and expect to harvest wheat? Is that possible? ZERO!!!! If you take dump MCAs in the County Assembly to oversight, represent and legislate and they are damn clueless on their constitutional duties , what do you expect? A Member of the County Assembly who doesn't understand the County Goverment Act , the public procurement and disposal Act , the Public Finance management act and Assembly standing orders and other legislative laws , what do you expect of such a person.
All this things , an MCA or a MP cannot grasp them in 5 years and out here , Wanjiku is waiting him/her with a litany of problems. When you see this leaders running away from their electorates , it is because of such things and if this leader ignores Wanjiku who voted him/her in , the fellow will be in deep shit. In all the regions of Kenya , from the coast , Northern Frontier , Nyanza and Western region , this madness of changing elected leaders like diapers based on emotions and feelings is only experienced in Mt Kenya region. I don't see this madnesses ending soon but it will continue post 2022. I think it is something endemic. Currently in this region , Wanjiku is vowing she won't vote in political party but rather an individual but let her get into that polling stations , there is a kaspirirt of exorcism that attacks her. She usually forgets the agreement between her outer self and the her inner self. Truth. I am describing a voter whom I have studied for long both empirically , quantitatively and qualitatively.
The voter in this is ugling to vote new leaders and she will heep on them alot of expectations. This leaders too occupy this seats with alot of expectations too. So , when there is no harmony between the two or this expectations don't meet at the apex , then , a serious fallout between this leader and her electorates ensues. There will be a very serious conflict that will go all the way to the general elections where , Wanjiku without evaluating whether this leader perfomed or not , will put a Political guillotine in this leader's neck with ZERO chills. That's the problem with the voter in this region. When the residents roited in the ballot to vote in Presidenti UHURU KENYATTA back in 2013 , they showed him with a litany of accolades and praises. They christened him njamba for his braveness when he stepped in in the of PEV back in Jan 2008 to save his Kikuyu community from being obliterated in Rift Valley. There was a video he was captured in at Kikuyu Constituency accompanied by former Kikuyu Constituency MP Lewis Nguyai urging his community to stop the killings especially after laywaying buses and person cars belonging to Luos , Luhyas and Kalenjins passing through the busy road that connects Nairobi and Western , Rift Valley and Nyanza regions.
Uhuru's clarion call for peace worked and many were shocked after Ocampo Luis , ICC prosecutor indicted him as being one of the suspects of henious and atrocious crimes aganaist humanity. That whipped the emotions of many Mt Kenya region residents who vowed to vote Uhuru as the 4th President of Kenya. Whether he will transact his duties from the dungeons of Guantanamo bay prison or in cells of ICC Hague based Court , they didn't care. GEMA nation rioted in the ballot to vote for their son Uhuru Kenyatta and not Ruto. Infact , if Ruto's URP had fielded candidates in Mt Kenya region , he would have gotten a rude shock. Mt Kenya region was painted red and white from the head to the toe. It was TNA moment and that party euphoria was sweeping swathes of huge votes across the mountain region.
Today , the very Mt Kenya region voter had forgotten all that. He is calling President Uhuru Kenyatta all manner of unprintable words. Ruto knows very well he won't be spared either by the very voter. It is now that he is being shown cosmetic love and support but it only takes less that 24 hours for the very Mt Kenya region voter to take a round about and show Ruto and his UDA party the middle finger an in an unapologetic manner. If notable Political sociologist like Schumpeter, Robert Dahl , Robert Michel , Vilfredo Pareto etc still exist and tasked to sociologically analyse the Mt Kenya region voter and her psychological behaviors , it would take this scholars years to compile their findings. Reason, this voter is very complex. It is difficult to understand her. Fact!!! I hope this time round , she will put her feelings and whimsical emotions aside and us reason to vote. I am hoping aganaist hope.
