ONCE A DO , ALWAYS A DO.

 For the better part of yesterday , social media practitioners from both Azimio la Umoja one Kenya Alliance coalition party and Kenya Kwanza Alliance were trading barbs on whether Ruto's running mate Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua ever severed as a District Officer (DO) in Molo Division of Nakuru County back in 1992 when this very division was at the heart of politically instigated attacks that costed massive lose of lives , injuries , destruction of properties and displacement of innocent civilians. For a very long time, GEMA nation especially Kikuyus have been living in constant fear. At this moment in time , when you see a wry face on the them , just know it is cosmetic. As days are melting away and the general elections are drawing near, women and children who bears the heaviest brunt of post election violence are having sleepless nights. They are suffering from the fear of an known. They are asking them self , will Rift Valley be Bonde la Amani ama bonde la Vita?

I am hoping aganaist hope that Presidential candidates especially William Ruto and Raila Odinga will commit to peace before , during abd after the next general elections. The party which will feel aggrieved by the outcome of the presidential election , they should use legal channels to lodge their displeasure instead of calling mass action or political persecution of one tribe because they failed to vote for him/her or a certain political formation. Back to the Gachagua man. Was Gachagua a DO during the KANU regime? Yes!!! Should he be held responsible for the atrociously the and henious crimes that regime metted on Kenyans? Yes!!! Was he part of the provincial administration who wrecked havoc to anti-KANU regime in Limuru Division? Yes!!!

Gachagua as a student in the University of Nairobi where he studied BA ( Political Science and Literature) lived large. He was enjoying State largesse and even organised disco in his room for Students. Most of this students were spies for the Special Branch sleuths and the person who was coordinating all this was Gachagua. Fellow students like Wafula Buke , Karl Marx Awiro , Mwadawiro and exiled Dr Miguna Miguna were the casualties. I wonder why Miguna is becoming too linient on Gachagua and very Economical with the truth. What shocked many students then was the kind of POWER Gachagua wielded as a student. Infact , he would have spitted on the shoes of a lecturer who is a Prof or Dr and it is the latter who would apologize not thr former. Getting access to Kabarnet gardens where President Moi spent most of his time was just a blink of an eye to Rigathi Gachagua. 

Rigathi was leading a contingent of students who were pro KANU regime in this residents where they will eat and make merry. Back to the campus , they would return with their pockets fully loaded with cash. I rewind , huge cash. A long Tom Mboya street, the famous night club Karūmaindo now ( Sabina Joy) would feel their presence. "Night Nurses" would give their services without qualms and their hefty clients would tell them,"keep change". After graduating from UoN , Gachagua was picked to be DO cadet where he rose through the ranks in a very suspicious manner. Meritocracy wasn't considered bit his dogmatic and sycophantic mentality and loyalty was his yardstick. He ended up becoming a special DO category one. This kind of rank was like that of a Cabinet Secretary or Minister without portfolio. This is where he found himself in Molo Division. For avoidance of doubt , he wasn't posted there to serve but to "clean" the mess after thr 1992 general elections especially on dissidents who voted overwhelmingly to the opposition Presidential candidate Ford Asili's Kenneth Matiba.

In this social media spaces , it was awash with push and pull but what majority never remembered is, Gachagua while appearing at Inooro TV kiririmbi shoe , he intimated that, he is regretting for the henious crimes he committed as a DO under KANU regime but he was acting on orders from above. So, how can you regret for something you didn't do? This thing alone is hilarious. When the likes of Gordon Opiyo are defending Rigathi with all his body parts , did he listened to Gachagua at Inooro TV? Or the person who interpreted for him in either kiswahili or English misled him?

Kenya's history doesn't favour Gachagua at all and Ruto knows it. He is just trying to burry his face with his palms but and talking with authority while defending Gachagua but down his heart , he knows too well he made a very serious political blunder. He was checkmated by Azimio la Umoja council chair President Uhuru Kenyatta when he fronted Hon. Martha Karua SC who is party leader of NARC Kenya and not a member of Jubilee Party. Again , how would President Uhuru fronted Karua and he vehemently opposed BBI document which was his brains l child document?

Kenyans were shocked especially the Kenya Kwanza Alliance camp when the former Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo described Rigathi as a dictator who will be ruthless and how he warned Ruto against the move. What does that tell us out hear? During the very day Ruto was picking his running mate , there was a standoff at Karen where , a majority of UDA's Mt Kenya region political leaders voted in favour of Prof Kindiki Kithure. They rejected Rigathi but Ruto ignored them and picked him. No wonder, this very politicians are not putting the photo of Rigathi in their campaign posters. They are ashamed of associating themselves with him.

Rigathi has a tainted character. Ruto too has the same. The duo doesn't offer any hope. Majority of silent voters especially in Mt Kenya region will vote against the duo. Don't be fooled by the huge crowds this people pull in this political rallies especially in the mountain region. Come August 9th , we will compare notes especially on the voting patterns in this region. The blemishes which Rigathi left behind in all the divisions he served in various parts of Kenya are haunting him now. He can't photoshop Kenya's history. Yes!!! However much he tries to spin it , it is becoming extremely a Herculean task.

The best way for Rigathi Gachagua is to come out clear and offer a public apology to all the existing and departed souls he aggrieved. There are some who switches their television sets when they see him appear in them. Others closes their ears when they hear him speak on their radios. Other go home when they hear he is coming in their shopping centres and that's where they conduct their businesses. From his end, playing politics of denial and Escapism won't help. It is just adding more salt to a worsening sore wound. Let him come out and apologize to offer a closure to the victims. If he is feeling ashamed , DP Ruto can do it on his behalf or else, we will continue saying , once a DO , always a DO and an apple doesn't fall far away from the tree that bore it and also, a flower near a cactus will always weep. Think about it.
