RAILA'S POLITICS OF FOOD IS SELF DESTRUCTIVE.
It is clear that the cost of living that shot up astronomically and ordinary Kenyans are feeling the pinch. Yes!!! We can't continue playing the Politics of an ostrich where , we will burry our heads into the sand and imagine the danger have gone away. That alone will be false consciousness. The cost of petrol has shot up. Yesterday , Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) drove the last nail in the coffin ot our miseries. Sh 9 increase is not something we can ignore. The price of maize flour is too expected to increase. That of cooking oil will be the real earthquake. Infact , I have started adjusting myself on eating food which is cooked without cooking oil.
Just the other day , Azimio la Umoja one Kenya Alliance coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga while addressing a rally promised that , if Kenyans will vote in Azimio , he will reduce the cost of living especially the price of essential household products. A section of kenyans both drawn from Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Azimio la Umoja were rattled by that promise. Ruto too made that promise again that if Kenyans elects him to be thr next president of Kenya , he will reduce the cost of living. This kind of politics by using Kenyans empty stomachs. You cannot postpone hunger and again, the very hunger , it is not singling out Kenyans who are either supporting Prof Wajackoyah , Mwaure Waihiga , Ruto or Raila Odinga.
Let's be honest with ourselves and be sober for once. Our economy isn't favouring us. Though I don't want to heep blame to the government wholely because , currently , the World is facing a recession though it is mild but it has started biting in wealthy Nations like United States , Canada, France , UK etc. In UK , the Bank of England raised the interest rates by 1% because of the ongoing World recession which I have stated it is mild. The financial markets are too struggling , from Wall street , to London Stock exchange to Nairobi Securities exchange , things are becoming difficult each day. Entities are registering negatives in their daily indices. The pump is not only painful in Kenya but also in US and most Countries in Europe and South East Asia. The war in Ukraine also has contributed much in tht ongoing global economic crises. The cost of grain has shot up. The raw material which is used to process cooking oil which mostly comes from Russia and Ukraine has declined and the one which is available especially in Indonesia , the prices that shot up.
Azimio la Umoja should act fast and quickly because Ruto has started pointing fingers to the government he is serving as the second in command of participanting fully in creating the economic miseries Kenyans are going through. I can't shy to remind him that , he is too part of that problem. He has perfected the art of taking credit from thr same goverment but fully exonerating himself from its shortcomings. This is the most dangerous person to vote in as a president. When Ruto started talking about the cost of living and promising residents that , their problems will be addressed after they vote him as president is the best form of the stick and carrot politics.
If I could be the a person who is close to Raila Odinga presidential team , I have advise him not to use food politics in his campaigns. That's how the baggage of this Government will be entirely be placed in his shoulders. So far , he has succeeded from distancing himself from its liabilities and goodies. Let him not fall into that trap. However told him to coin that political messaging is setting for him a trap. He/she is aiming at draining all the gains Azimio la Umoja has been making. If it is Ruto making such promises , it is fine because he knows how destructive it is since he is in the government as a Deputy President. Should he be identifying the problem and giving empty promises or offering solutions? Raila Odinga should just understand this , that Kenyans are hungry. Yes!!! I will remind him that again. If the price of maize flour which is currently retailing at sh 180 , things will get out of hand. It is the high time president Uhuru Kenyatta to address the rising cost of living especially the prices of essential commodities.
I retariate again , Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga should distance himself from the cost of living debate. It will be very destructive on his side and the entire brigade. Let Ruto point out problems yet he should be giving us solutions but Raila Odinga should be advising his brother President Uhuru Kenyatta on how to lower the cost of living. This is where his input is wanted . He is a president in waiting who should be giving us solutions to the already indentified problems. On the other hand , Ruto should be making noise and indentifying problems instead of offering solutions because he is the opposition leader in waiting. Let's see the difference between the two. It is that simple.
