POLITICAL MARRIAGES AREN'T CENTERED ON TILL DEATH PUT US APART.

 When a couple goes down the isle in a grand wedding , they vow that until death puts them apart , they will spend the rest of their lives together. Those are just wishes because , there are many factors that are invicible which play a huge role to necessitate that promise. We have witnessed in our courts very ugly divorce cases of couples who staged a grand wedding. In today's society , if there are lawyers who rip big aren't those who are handling criminal or commercial cases but those handling family law cases and especially on matrimonial properties and divorce cases. If that happens , what do you expect from political marriages especially in Kenya? The first political marriage to break and in an ugly manner was that of President Jomo Kenyatta and his Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. That was back in 1966. That political marriage suffocated on the grounds of political deceit , hypocrisy and machinations.

The main currency in KENYA'S political space isn't cryptocurrency or dollars or euro or sterling pound or shilling but BETRAYAL.  For you to survive in Kenya's politics , you need to be someone with a big heart. Yes!!! Failure to which , you are susceptible to high blood pressure , stress and depression. When you see politicians like Kalonzo Musyoka playing hard , it is because of the character development he has gone through in the past and especially in the hands of political friends whom he had heaped trust and faith in. Raila Odinga , Musalia Mudavadi , Martha Karua , William Ruto are politicians in one way or another have beared brunt of political betrayal. Wait abit!!! Politics is no romance but it is all about interests. The relationship between one politician to the other is like that of a hooker and her client. No loved attached between them but only interests such that , once they part ways , no one will accuse the other of dumping them or using each other and leaving them. 

In 2002 , the political marriage between the late President Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga died within the first 100 days of the NARC government. But the question is, who betrayed the other in that political union? The Kibaki inner circle , especially the Mūthaiga honcho conspired to ensure the gentleman agreement that Kibaki and Raila Odinga entered will be nipped in the but and won't see the light of the day. Kibaki had promised Raila Odinga that , in the first 100 days of the NARC administration , they will initiate a constitution change process and create the seat of the Prime Minister. The Kibaki ruling elites whom he had close knighted relationship ever since THEIR times in the backbenches that , that won't see the light of the day. They treated Raila Odinga with mean looking eyes and with alot of CONTEMPT though in a veiled manner. From their end , they had planned from the word go that , they will throw him under the moving bus politically. And they really implemented their threat. The clarion call of it is our time to eat took centre stage.

Enter 2013 and another political marriage was mooted between President Uhuru Kenyatta with his The National Alliance ( TNA) party and William Ruto with his United Republican Party (URP). This marriage stemmed from the yoke of post election violence (PEV) of 2007/08. The two leaders were drawn from the two warring ethnic communities especially in Rift Valley province. Since 1992 , Kikuyus had been suffering from persecution from political elites and residents because of their political decisions. The only general elections they breathed fresh air from political persecution was  in 2002. Why?? It is because , the KANU regime under President Moi had fronted UHURU KENYATTA to face off with Mwai Kibaki. In 2013 , the duo ( Ruto and UHURU) were dealing with the ICC cases. The two were mentioned in the Ocampo 6 list. To whip the emotions of their ethnic communities , they told them that , the reason why they were taken to Hague is because of political persecution.

That narrative whipped the emotions of their constituents so much. A sympathy card had sold well. Raila Odinga was dragged into that accusation of being behind the duos political woes. A serious ethnic contempt towards Luos and Raila Odinga swept the whole of North Rift and Mt Kenya region. In short , a marriage of inconvenience between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his DP William Ruto was founded. It had not roots. None. Jubilee Alliance was sealed in Afraha Stadium infront of a sea of humanity who had turned up. Nakuru Town was locked. The conversation from there was Uhuruto. That was their selling point. Then , the digital team swag was also selling very well where by , CORD was branded as a Coalition led by an old guard.

After the 2013  general elections , Jubilee Alliance won. President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto formed the government. What was disheartening is , the government was shared in a manner that gangsters share the loot after a successful bank Robbery. Infact , between Uhuru and Ruto , no one owed the other anything. Absolutely nothing. They shared the animal they both hunted. The one who went with a huge carcass at the expense of the other , it is their fault. At Afraha Stadium , UHURU KENYATTA said , yangu kumi , ya Ruto kumi. That is the promise Ruto has been riding on and especially in Mt Kenya region where he has been triggering the emotions of the residents. This card isn't selling. Wanjiku resonates with something new. Relying on an old narrative after 10 years is misplaced abd far fetched.

The train have left the station. President Uhuru Kenyatta and his DP William Ruto who were enjoying a bromance cordial relationship even doning in similar attire are now avoiding looking each other in the eyes. Ruto should now package himself better. President Uhuru Kenyatta's heart is in Azimio la Umoja one Kenya Alliance coalition party. Ruto's heart is in Kenya Kwanza Alliance. The marriage is over. The children born out of that marriage of inconvenience are torn between following the "father"or the "mother". Time will tell. The mountain has found itself at the centre of the fall out between President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto. Politics is all about interests not LOVE. If you are looking for love in politics , even the most liberal democracies like US , Canada , France , UK etc don't offer. Or to console oneself , watch the Mexican soup operas. They will nurse your ego. In KENYA'S political space , unakaa ngumu. Period!!!!
