DEAR MR PRESIDENT , KENYANS ARE HUNGRY AND ANGRY.

Today , President Uhuru Kenyatta held a meeting with his entire Cabinet. It has been convened in the middle of the high cost of living. Things aren't cosy and we must tell each other the truth. Hunger doesn't know which political divide you are subscribed to. Kenya Kwanza Alliance supporters and Azimio la Umoja supporters are suffering the same way. The prices of basic commodities have sky rocketed and wanjiku is crying day in , day out. The consumer price index ( CPI) has rised to abnormal levels. Today , with a sh 1000 note , you are doing shopping for basic commodities in a retail shop or supermarket and you feel as if you have been robbed. You create a budget list and before settling on which items to purchase and which ones to postpone , you do adjustments until the list loses its original appearance. Things are hard.

Yesterday , it was reported that the cost of refilling a 6kg and 13kg LPG gas will increase due to thr taxation slapped on it by the finance bill, 2022. The prices of cooking oil , wheat , bread , maize flour , raw and powdered milk etc is likely to shoot up. The government through the President and his cabinet must intervene to arrest the situation. Currently , Kenya's economy is facing a galloping inflation headed to a hyper inflation. Fact!!! Let me hope chief among the issues President Uhuru Kenyatta and his cabinet ventilated on is the rising cost of living and how to arrest the situation. Many are Kenyans who are skipping meals. It isn't a laughing matter at all. However much politicians are whipping the emotions of kenyans in the rallies on the rising cost of living , I hope today got a chance to give their recommendations on what should do to arrest that situation once and for all.

The other day , Deputy President William Ruto took a swipe on castigating the very government for the high cost of living. Today , he got a chance to sit in the cabinet meeting. This is where Government pooicies are being formulated and also adjusted depending on the rising issues. Government policies are subject to reviews and adjustments. They aren't cast on stone. I hope against hope DP Ruto raised the issue of high cost of living and I don't anticipate to hear it from him either today or tommorow in a political rally inorder to hoodwink the masses yet as a Deputy President who is still holding the office , he is at a pole position to solve our problems.

From where am seated , I don't think President Uhuru Kenyatta isn't aware of the kind of suffering Kenyans are going through especially Economically. Our brothers and sisters in the Northern Frontier Counties are facing a severe drought and famine. The National Drought Management Authority ( NDMA) has already issued a red flag. Things aren't going well and we should stop burying our heads in the sand and assume the danger has gone away. People who are hungry cannot consume any information especially during this time of campaign period. People who are hungry are difficult to be governed especially when the very government promised to reduce the cost of living when it was seeking re-election.

Am ain't ignorant to understand that , as a Country , we are slowly recovering from COVID-19 after shocks. The world economy is also facing a mild nose dive which is gaining pace as the Ukraine- Russia War is accelerating instead of decelerating. Let the government do something. A supplementary budget should be tabled to caution Kenyans especially by reducing the cost of basic commodities that each and every house hold can't go without. I believe HE President Uhuru Kenyatta will do the necessary. At this particular time and moment , all eyes are on him.
