WHY SENATOR KANG'ATA WAS POLITICALLY INCORRECT?

In yesterday's Sunday Nation columnist section , Senator Irungu Kangata penned an article titled , " like Ruto , Raila should pledge to accept poll outcome."  In this article Kangata ventilate on a vers sensitive issue of Democratic Consolidation by quoting from Prof Samuel Philips Huntington's book , The Third Wave : Democratization in the Twentieth Century. Huntington was a very serious scholar who had penned alot of scholarly book and contributed so much in the scholarship especially in Political Science. One of his notable books are ; The Soldier and the State and Political Order in Changing Societies. Sen KANG'ATA domiciled his issue on democratic Consolidation and why Raila Odinga should accept the August 9th presidential election. From his end , he held brief for Ruto that he will accept the outcome of the August presidential election. The question is , how sure is he? Is he vying for Mūrang'a County gubernatorial seat or the presidential seat? Again , in his litany Political tours he is making in Mūrang'a County hunting for votes , has he pledged that he will accept the outcomes of the gubernatorial election in an event he will lose?

When Kangata talked about democratic Consolidation , it is a scenerio where democracy matures in a given State. This is especially when that State is transitioning from an Autocratic , Military regime , dictatorial or Authoritarian State to a democracy. What the senator failed to note is , democratic consolidation in Kenya is very solid since the inception of pluralism back in 1991. Kenya is a fledgling Democracy. A paragon of virtue in the south of Sahara and North of River Limpopo. In the East Africa region , Kenya is a haven of Democracy. There is clear separation of power between the Judiciary , Legislature and the Executive. Unless our Senator is new in Kenya , he can't note that but because I know he is not a stranger , he is just applying selective amnesia.

The person in William Ruto who Senator Irungu Kangata is  telling us that he has pledged in a public rally that he will accept the poll results is someone who doesn't believe in thr democratic consolidation the Senator is talking about. In 1991 , when the wave of change from autocracy to Democracy was sweeping across Africa through Kenya , Ruto was among those young Kenyans who were defending the Autocratic and despotic KANU regime. Through the militia group YK 92 , they terrorised the young Turks and thr second liberation heroes. Hon Martha Karua and Rt. Hon Raila Odinga suffered the heavy brunt of that persecution. Infact , Raila Odinga suffered the most. From thr dungeons of thr Nyayo House torture chambers to the gallows in Kamiti maximum security prison.

So , there no pair that understands democratic consolidation better than the Raila and Karua. Democracy and Ruto cannot feature in the same sentence. They are allergic to each other other. It sounds like a pun when Ruto mentions the word Democracy. Infact , Raila Odinga and Martha Karua will accept the presidential elections I'd only , the word is , if only , the "IF" function taking root here. If only the election will be free , fair and credible. Period!!! By quoting that Raila Odinga lost in 2007 , didn't accept the results , 2013 and 2017 is hilarious. It is the referee who was failing to account how he officiated the match. If the referee is at pains to explain to one of the competing teams how the game was won by the opponent and he lost is what had irked Raila Odinga.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC) must pledge to conduct a free , fair and credible elections. Why didn't Senator Irungu Kangata started by asking the IEBC to conduct a Fair game bearing in mind he is still vying for a political seat? Or his the Mūrang'a County gubernatorial election won't be conducted by IEBC? . In his article , I noted alot of hypocrisy from the start to the end. I didn't see him giving a comparative study of Democratic Consolidation in Kenya and other East Africa States. Compare our democracy with that of Uganda , Burundi , South Sudan and the newly member Democratic Republic of Congo( DRC)? What cah he say about the level of Democracy in those States? Wait abit , do we even have Democracy in those States to start with?

In conclusion , Senator Irungu Kangata ascribed to the term Democratic Consolidation from the notion of where his political affiliation lies and not on the parameters of whether Kenyans enjoy democratic consolidation. Do we have an independent judiciary , do we have a sober and independent legislature? To Kenyans engage in the governance of their State's affairs through direct and indirect democracy? Do we have freedom of speech , expression , worship, association and movement?  All this , the answer is YES. That points to , the article by Senator Irungu Kangata was just a misrepresentation of facts and misuse of scholarly terms to achieve political scores and at the same time , misleading the readers and Kenyans I'm general. It is so DECLASSIFIED.
