AN OPEN LETTER TO WANJIKU ( THE VOTER).
I hope you are fine and doing well. First , it is good to take cognizance that, you are battling with the vagaries of harsh and punitive Economic times. The cost of living has skyrocketed and thr only thing left is hand to mouth pattern. In layman language , you are saying the government has refused with money. That there is very little money in the circulation. This is a coded language to mean , aspirants for various political seats have refused to grease you especially now that the official campaign period has been announced by IEBC.
I fully understand that we are almost 60 days shy to the next general elections. I wonder why the haste but I too well understand that , economically , things are becoming elephant. Politicians will come. They need you. They will pamper , cajole and marinate you with juicy words. They will come to you directly. Infact , you done need to go looking for you. Why burn your calories and that aspirant needs you now more than you need him/her. The very aspirant will tend your farm , wash your utensils , help you carry the manure from your cowshed to your farm , help you pick your tea leaves and coffee etc. All this theatrics to masquerade that politician is very humble will resurface. It is happening but the fact is , it is not the politician(s) who wants to behave that way but it is the circumstances put forward by you the voter. It is something politicians hate and once you elect them to political offices ,they proceed erecting an "iron curtain" to shield them from you.
Dear Wanjiku , if you thought 5 years is a long time , you have now realized time flys very fast. It is just another day your town and village was painted in red , orange and blue colours. Aspirant were begging you , some even shedding tears to show you how humble and remorseful they are and once you give them your votes and they occupy some of this coveted seats , they will address all your social , economic and political problems. But in reality , that didn't happen and this resulted to you drawing RED NOTICE to them. The most interesting thing is , in Mt Kenya region , the place I come from , the attrition rate after each electioneering period is very high. Trust you me , majority of incumbents , both in Azimio la Umoja and in Kenya Kwanza Alliance won't see , the County Assembly , Senate and National Assembly. Others won't be re-elected in gubernatorial positions. That shows how the voter in this region is guided by emotions and feelings rather than reason.
Money is coming and sh 50 , sh 100 , as 200, sh 500 and sh 1000 notes will be in circulation. This time round , it is aspirants who will be dishing it. Wanjiku masquerade that she hates corruption but when that very aspirant fails to bribe her , she becomes very bitter. At this moment , wanjiku isn't interested in the manifesto of the aspirants , she is more concerned with what that aspirant will give her by the end of the day. That's where Wanjiku loses the point. The question is , do wanjiku knows what she wants? Does she know why she elects a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) , Member of the National Assembly ( MNA) , Senator , Women Representative , Governor and President? Does she understands each and every functions attached to those Political seats?
It is time for Wanjiku to realize that , just like the great Greek political philosopher Plato categorized the types of people in the society which I ventilated in deep. This are the Artisans , the Auxiliaries and the philosopher kings. Wanjiku is in the lower cadre. She is the Artisan. That is the producer and both the consumer. The philosopher kings and the Artisans are now having a very cordial relationship. It is short-lived and it isn't happening out of love but it is circumstances that is forcing it. It is very hilarious to see and hear that , it is for the first time since 2017 that Wanjiku will see and hobnob with his MP , MCA , Governor , Senator etc. Wanjiku must seize this opportunity to present her problems to the leaders she feels will address her problems. This isn't the moment to parade your stomach and totally shut your mind. That is where you wanjiku go wrong. Now that that politician will give you sh 200 and fail to address the very problem that affects you day to day , who is a senile in this context?
The other day , Ruto's running mate Hon Rigathi Gachagua said that , Mt Kenya region residents are influenced by money inorder to give their political support especially to one DP Ruto. In that context , Rigathi was representing the opinion of the Wanjiku henhas been dealing with. He is telling the World that , he is dealing with an ignoramus , simpletonic and a daft polity. Wanjiku should stand out to be counted. She shouldn't allow herself to be used as a bad example all the time because of sequencing her abnormalities of electing wrong leaders in Political offices. What she doesn't know is , politics gives those in Power to distribute resources which are always scarce. Resources have never been enough no wonder , there is always constant conflict between people in the society.
As I conclude , dear Wanjiku , as you swim in the pleasures of political songs and slogans , donning in those political outfits representing your preferred political parties or Alliances , just remember that the choice you will make come August 9th will dictate the kind of life you will lead. The kind of life your children will lead and also , the kind of Economic , social and political environment you will want to thrive in. Let's make sober decisions. As Artisans , you make detrimental political decisions , it is you who will bear the huge brunt. The Auxiliaries and the Philosopher kings will never complain because you made a bad decision. Why should they cry yet , the opulence they enjoy is because of your sweat since you pay taxes to make their lives better. Just remember this , CHOICES always have CONSEQUENCES. Make the right decision at the ballot.
