GACHAGUA , THE PROJECTED YES SIR "DEPUTY PRESIDENT".

 Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua is a man who currently too close to power yet too far. Since Sunday , I can guess the kind of dreams he has been encountering in his dream. That is a deputy president. The second in command who from his end , he will be wielding more power and influence than the current occupier of they office William Ruto is wielding. He is imagining the high level security he will be accorded by the State. The GSU and elite Recce squad who are highly trained to provide security to thr VVIPs in Kenya. He is seeing himself relaxing in Karen residence , where he has been paying homage for almost 10 years now courtesy of DP Ruto's friendship. This are a few examples of imaginations that are causing huge traffic in Gachagua's mind. The Herculean task ahead is to actualize those dreams , aspirations and imaginations into a reality. Time will tell.

A first time Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency and a career civil servant who rose to stardom from a District Officer cadet to be President Uhuru Kenyatta Personal Assistant. He has a pool of experience in the civil service. Though history vindicates him alot , this is an issue he has to battle with. On matters Democracy , human rights , good governance and zero tolerance to corruption , he cannot tangle with them. He is the contrary. On matters integrity , he needs two decades to convince sober Kenyans that he is fit to hold the office of the Deputy President and there is the required character traits of the occupier of that office in him. Waiting for Gachagua to give us the answer as to whether he feels he is best qualified to occupy that office is akin to milking a female elephant while sitting on an porcupine.

As a student at University of Nairobi , Gachagua lived large. He was enjoying the KANU regime largesse in return by being the eyes and the ears of President Moi. He was among those students then who were cleared to visit President Moi Kabarnet gardens with a litany of students who were ready to support and propel the  agenda of KANU party and regime. In return , more money was pouted at his door step. As a student of the same university , I got a chance to hear those stories from lecturers who vividly remember how things were during those days. 

The dreaded special branch slueths were spying on students especially those who were SoNU leaders and we're critical of the KANU regime. Lecturers were too not spared especially those in the department of History , literature , Political Science, sociology and education . Also , those at Law school in Parklands were not spared either. Gachagua was holding brief for special branch. Wafula Buke vividly narrates the ordeal he went through in the hands of special branch slueths were arrested him and tortured him on pretence that he was behind the mwakenya group. He doesn't mint his words by saying it was Gachagua who was giving out names and whereabouts of those students he was sure had strong Marxist and Leninist ideological views and stands.

In one of the interviews at a local TV station , Gachagua bragged how he was organizing posh Disco events in UoN hosteos for students who were levering him for treating them well. He was feared even by vice chancellor himself let alot lecturers abs heads of faculties and departments. Am waiting for political scientist Prof Mutahi Ngunyi to vividly narrates to us who is Rigathi Gachagua. He taoi him Political Science at UoN in the 80's so , he knows him more than us Miguna Miguna is playing hypocritical in this whole issue. In his book ," peeling back the mask" he vividly captures how Rigathi and his fellow protege persecuted them on SoNU. He explains in deep how the KANU regime through that persecution forced him into exile and abandoned his studies. Most of the second liberation heroes and we're students at UoN in the 1980's can vividly caution Kenyans to thr kind of danger they want to put themselves into.

Yesterday at Mathira Constituency during the burial of his brother , Gachagua unequivocally stated that he will be a very loyal deputy president to William Ruto if in case he becomes the president of Kenya. This is loyalty mixed with sycophancy. By saying that he will be a yes man is incongruent and calamitous to say the least. In short , henis telling Kenyans that , he will be an amorphous Deputy President who will never think or reason for himself. He will be take directives in a haphazard just to please his boss. The question is , how will he stand out when his boss can decide to strangle and defile the constitution he would have sweared to defend? How will he defend his community if his boss can decide to wreck havoc to thr just like president Moi did? In short , he is telling us , he will join him in unleashing that pain to them. Fact!!!

In 1992 politically instigated attacks that resulted to ethnic cleansing , Gachagua was the District Officer ( DO) in Molo Division , Nakuru District now County. This was a serious hotspot for those clashes where scores lost their lives , seriously injured and lost their properties which was burned and looted in large scale. Those who were targeted were members of this ethnic community ( Kikuyus) who were viewed as outsiders and have refused to toe the KANU party and Government line and have decided to support the opposition they time Democratic Party of the late Mwai Kibaki and Ford Asili of the late Kenneth Matiba. 

That's how history judges Gachagua and it will continue. Even after being transferred to Limuru and Kiambaa Constituencies in Kiambu County , traves of his henious crimes he committed many years ago are still wet. Very fresh to the minds of the residents there. President Uhuru Kenyatta said that , those who few history have something to hide. Yes!!! The mention of Gachagua's stint in the provincial administration makes his Heart to tremble. He hates being reminded of that history. There was a time he was hosted at Inooro TV morning show. The host Kamau wa Kang'ethe asked him a question hus tenure as a District Officer in Molo Division back in 1992 , he became angry and emotional. He became restless and from where I was sitted , I thought he will walk out of the studio in protest. 

Today , he won't run away from that. Choices have consequences and that's why Kenyans should avoid making a fatal mistake in the ballot. He has an active corruption case at Milimani Court. He doesn't look presidential at all bearing in mind , the person holding the office of the Deputy President is a president in waiting. Now , between Rigathi and Martha Karua , who looks presidential? Our future as a country doesn't lie in the hands who even his colleagues had rejected him. There is something that they know about him that we should dig to know though , you don't need to dig much because that character is all over his body. 

A running mate who is telling his community that , the only thing he will negotiate for in Ruto's Government is rice and meat should not only hold that office but he shouldn't come near any public Office in future. His utterances yesterday were despicable , erratic and careless to say the least. So , you should now understand why Ruto settled on him and not Prof Kindiki Kithure. The writings are on the wall. Danger is lurking AHEAD. THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID IT , IS BY REJECTING THE DUP AT THE BALLOT.
